As 2024 draws to a close, it’s hard to believe how much has happened in just 12 months. This year has truly been one of progress for Overdrive Motors, as we’ve started to carve out the path we hope to continue forging for years to come. From exciting projects to unexpected challenges, there’s been no shortage of action here at the garage.
A Year of Incredible Projects
One of our proudest highlights this year was working with two brilliant customers to prepare donated vehicles for Ukraine as part of the war effort. This unique opportunity allowed us to use our skills for a purpose beyond retail work, and it was both fulfilling and fascinating to be involved in something so meaningful.
Closer to home, we’ve been thrilled to see an influx of Land Rover Defenders pass through the garage. Expanding our fleet of Defenders for sale has been a fantastic experience, allowing us to dive even deeper into our passion for these iconic vehicles. Of course, we’ve also had some fascinating cars come through the workshop—each bringing its own quirks and challenges that keep us on our toes.
Leveling Up the Garage
Another milestone this year was the ongoing development of our office and customer waiting area. While it’s not quite finished yet, it has already elevated us as a business and given us a clearer vision of what we’re working toward. We’re excited to continue these upgrades and make Overdrive Motors the welcoming, professional space we’ve always envisioned.
Mishaps and Memorable Moments
Naturally, no year in the motor trade is complete without a few mishaps. From oil explosions to unexpected breakdowns during test drives, we’ve had our fair share of laughs (and clean-ups). A standout moment was helping a neighbouring business after their potential customer crashed a test-drive car deep into the woods. With our trusty know-how, we managed to retrieve the car (surprisingly, not a write-off!) and turn what could have been a nightmare into a surprisingly entertaining afternoon. We have also spent the year observing the dogs sleeping in a variety of positions, some more comfortable than others!
Not only that but one of the highlights we can both agree on year on year are the delivery and collection of vehicles. Whether we are buying from an auction and just aren't quite sure what we are going to pick up or whether it's something we've had our eye on for a while, it is always a thrill.
Lastly, and it feels like a long time ago, but we started off this year with the installation of a second ramp. Not only was this a significant achievement but also has enabled us to take on longer term projects and made us a lot more efficient!
Growth and Change
This year has also been one of significant growth. Although we parted ways with a staff member (a positive decision for all involved), we’ve returned to our original “dream team” of two and are taking our time to decide whether to expand again. This transition has allowed us to refocus and grow in new ways, meeting exceptional customers and further solidifying our Land Rover specialisation while continuing to work on a wide variety of vehicles.
What’s Coming in 2025
We’re buzzing with excitement about what’s to come next year! While we can’t spill all the details yet, we’re in talks to become the main garage for the development of bespoke sports cars— watch this space for some thrilling updates.
We’re also planning to support our local motorheads by offering space to rent for individuals or one-man operations to work on their vehicles. Whether you’re looking for a dry place to tinker with a long-term project or need somewhere to store tools, we’ll have limited spots available on a first-come, first-served basis. Keep an eye out for more information in January!
In addition, we’ll be extending our car servicing options in 2025 with fixed-price servicing plans and a 10% discount throughout January. It’s our way of helping our customers keep their vehicles running smoothly in the face of rising costs and extra taxes.
Giving Back and Looking Ahead
We’re hoping for another chance to work with Pick Ups for Peace or a similar initiative in 2025, using our skills to make a difference. We’re also planning to participate in—and hopefully host—a few Defender-related events, so stay tuned for more on that!

A Big Change for 2025
As 2025 approaches, we have some exciting personal news to share: our team of two (plus the dogs) will soon become a team of three! With our first baby due in January, we’re looking forward to the next chapter for both our family and Overdrive Motors. Rest assured, baby spanners will be in hand as quickly as possible—we’re already planning her induction into the family business!
