Back to the Present: A Time-Travelling DeLorean Docks at Overdrive Motors

Ever had a car roll into your garage that made you check the calendar to ensure you hadn't accidentally time-travelled? Well, hold onto your flux capacitors, folks! We had the iconic DeLorean, famous from "Back to the Future," grace us with its gull-winged presence right here in Kirdford, sparking a joyride of nostalgia and marvel at Overdrive Motors.

This wasn't just any DeLorean. This one seemed to have taken a detour via 1985, loaded with Back to the Future memorabilia and signatures aplenty! The owner, a die-hard fan of the film (aren't we all?), is known to flux around showcasing this beauty. Talk about living the dream, eh?

Now, let's shift gears and dive into why this classic car, with fewer than 9,000 units ever produced, still revs our hearts up to 88 mph. First off, the DeLorean DMC-12, with its stainless steel bodywork and those iconic gull-wing doors, was a vision of the future, back from the past... or is that the other way around? Manufactured between 1981 and 1983, this car was a rarity even before Doc Brown decided it was the perfect vehicle for his time-travelling escapades.

But why the DeLorean? Legend has it that the car's futuristic look was just the ticket for a movie centred around time travel. Plus, those doors that lift up instead of out? Perfect for dodging those pesky T-Rexes in the Jurassic era – or so we've heard.

In terms of screen time, the DeLorean clocked in more minutes in the spotlight than some of the trilogy's supporting actors. It zoomed, zapped, and zig-zagged through the entire "Back to the Future" series, becoming as much of a star as Marty McFly and Doc Brown themselves.

Fast forward to today, and the DeLorean has become a rolling symbol of 80s pop culture, a metallic mascot for time travellers (wannabe or otherwise) everywhere. Its rarity only adds to the mystique; with only a fraction of the original fleet still cruising around, spotting one in the wild – let alone in our workshop in West Sussex – is like finding a needle in a haystack... if the haystack were in another time period.

Now, you might wonder, what kind of work does a time-travelling DeLorean come in for? No, we weren't installing a new flux capacitor (ours is still in the post, apparently). Instead, our expert mechanics, specialists in classic cars, gave it the TLC it needed to ensure it's ready for its next comic con appearance – or its next leap through time. The owner had noticed one side of the exhaust had dropped and so we were tasked with the satisfaction of manufacturing a new exhaust bracket. There's no task too big or small for our garage and the more interesting or challenging the better! Whether it's a regular service or preparing for a trip to the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance, we've got it covered.

Having this DeLorean in our workshop was like hosting a celebrity. It reminded us why we love working with classic cars: they're not just vehicles; they're time capsules, each with its own story and a direct line to the past...or future, depending on how you look at it. So, if your classic car needs a check-up, or if you're planning to build your own time machine (we promise we won't tell), zoom on down to Overdrive Motors in Kirdford. Who knows? Maybe we'll see you yesterday!
